In 1936, a pivotal moment in the history of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church unfolded with the purchase of land on Brick Kiln Road, Purasaiwakkam, dedicated to serving as a sacred resting place. In 1966, Reverend Steinhoff led Good Shepherd Lutheran Church to a historic milestone by securing land for church’s permanent location. This crucial step provided the church with a stable foundation, transforming it into a lasting place of worship and fellowship. His vision and dedication shaped the church’s future, ensuring a sacred space for generations to come. This landmark achievement not only strengthened the congregation’s spiritual roots but also reaffirmed the church’s commitment to faith and community.
On February 11, 1973, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church took a momentous step forward with the laying of its foundation stone, symbolizing the beginning of a sacred journey. With unwavering faith and dedication, the congregation worked tirelessly for a year and a half to bring their vision to life. Their perseverance bore fruit on June 23, 1974, when the church structure was officially opened, standing as a beacon of hope and worship. This milestone remains a testament to the unity and commitment of its members, shaping the church’s legacy for generations to come.
In 1985, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church underwent significant enhancements, strengthening both its structure and spirit. A dedicated parsonage was built, providing a home for pastoral leadership, while surrounding walls were erected to create a secure and welcoming space for the congregation. These developments not only improved the church’s facilities but also fostered a deeper sense of community and worship. By establishing two branch churches in Thirumulaivoyal and TR Palayam, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church has grown its ministry over the years. Since then, Thirumulaivoyal has developed into an independently functioning IELC church. Meanwhile, the TR Palayam, St. Mark Lutheran church continues to operate underthe guidance and support of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. This expansion reflects the commitment of GSLC to spread the message of faith and service, Ensuring that the light of the Gospel shines brightly in these communities. – 2018
